some updates.

nothing much lately...

i remember baking my 8800gtx in oven. it worked lol, but for a short while.. after 4 tries, i decided to let it rest in peace

nothing too interesting that's worth mentioning in the campus. this is the 5th week so its exam week, but lol there's only 1 exam this week. engineering maths, thursday. mainly on stuff we learnt back in form 4 n 5. friends were fine, but nothing compared to friends from high school

ping's been low lately, but it sprung back up since saturday, no idea why.

went to lenny's house yesterday. watched shrek, picnic(its outside wad..) and went to jusco to mess with junmin n yinpin. yup, we're tat 无聊. her dad is too nice zzzZ... oh, and apparently lenny nvr watched rambo

really bored. n good god the pings are back to more or less normal now. found out it was partially streamyx's fault and partially bitdefender's fault. i upgraded bitdef form 2010 to 2011. it features a share updates options that accelerates update speed by using p2p protocol. good thing to normal users, bad for gamers. since it occupies some of your bandwidth thus increasing your ping. in my case, an increase of a WTF 100++ms.

k wat was i going to say...

oh yes. how to lower your ping. so today's topic is how to lower your ping. there are quite a few ways to do this. and you see alot of methods being advertised out there in the internet but not all works. i'll explain 3 of the more common ones.

1. Iobit GameBooster. one of this is my favorite. this thing not only improves your ping but it also shuts down Windows and other services which are not critical to the OS's and game's operation. not only that, any resource wasting applications will be shut down. less load on your pc meant better game performance(i mean less choppy frame rate, it wont improve your gameplay. you'll hv to train harder for that.). but no worry, it will restore everything back to its original state once u turn gamebooster off. so how does it improve your latency? simple, it shuts down bandwidth hogging service such as SSDP, wmp streaming etc. these services constantly sends out packets which raises your ping. you can expect about 100-150ms reduction in latency from this.

2. using a proxy server. ok, this is by far the most popular way i found online. but does it work? its a yes and a no. the yes part is that you will get lower latency in game. keyword=IN GAME. proxy server is like a repeater. to use a proxy, a gamer 1st connects to the proxy, then the proxy connects to the game server. hence, the ping in game will always be lower than the actual ping because the game server is measuring the ping from the proxy server instead of the gamer's pc. the no part is that the actual ping is way higher because of the transaction from the gamer's pc to the proxy server then to the game server. hence, the proxy server does not decrease your actual ping but it does decrease your ping in game.

3. disabling Nagle's Algorithm. this only applies for Windows Vista and 7. this thing is a type of protocol that improves the efficiency of packet sending but it also increases latency. packets are essentially data you send into the internet when you use the internet. you send packets when you send data, you receive packets when you receive data. the nagle's algorithm regulates how packets are sent. it groups together a few bytes before sending them off as 1 packet. this ensures higher efficiency and avoiding congestion collapse of data traffic since less packets needed to be sent in this way. with this enabled, all the bits and bytes from your game will have to wait until there's enough of them to form a packet. no packet will be sent to the game server until enough of them has accumulated. this is bad for the latency since latency is measured by how many seconds does it take to send and receive packets. disabling the nagle's algorithm solves the latency problem by sending off every bits and bytes as soon as they are created, lowering the latency for real.

after all those lag cutting steps, there are still some numbers in your game ping counter. these are called distance lag which there is no technology available to solve this. these are the latency caused by the distance between your pc and the target server. the further the distance, the higher the latency. think of this as driving a car. if you wanna go from penang to lets say sarawak(ok, maybe not by driving), it takes a longer time compared if you wanted to go to kedah which is hell alot closer. now, the base latency cant be improved, but what you can do is improve the connection from your pc to the target server. the most basic way is to get better ISP(Internet Service Provider).  a good ISP will route your connection using the best possible way hence your latency is lower. but a bad ISP(akhemmmstreamyxakhemm) will route your connection through alot of congested DSLAM and out through Melaka and the wrong way around the world until your connection ends up in Holland(which is a nice tourism spot) and back to the target server. lol joking, but they do route it in the most stupidest way. also, use a fibre optic line instead of a DSL line will also lower your ping significantly since fibre optic is faster and also speed of light is faster than speed of electron. another thing to keep in mind is to NOT use wireless internet. no matter its wifi, wimax, wireless broadband, 3g, 4g, 5g..... bla bla bla... they're not safe due to increased radiation(srsly, try putting a chicken near a wimax transmitter tower and it'll gt microwaved to perfection), they're costly, they're usually congested due to large amount of user, prone to DC(disconnection) and waves still travel slower than electron and light.

k, if you wanna know your latency and stuff. go to speedtest and ping it to any server you like.

Fked up day

woke up 5.30am. not punctual, early. and i didnt fell right already. everything simple task seemed to occupy my entire brain power. i paused to think how to make a cup of milo this morning.

left home at 6.45am. later than usual, i used to leave at 6.15am. massive traffic jam, reached school at 8 something. sat down, plugged in the netbook and go on to log in to INTI's network. failed. my account has been denied log on for 3 days now. so instead, i left my netbook to do antivirus scan. while at it, i open up the electronics text i borrowed from the library. i've had it for almost 2 weeks, it was due on thursday. went through 2 chapters, i couldnt solve even the easiest analysis. i worked it out eventually. keyword :eventually. yet i still got a few questions which i couldnt solve. nevermind, i hv electronics class today anyway, might as well make use of the overly kind lecturer.

hung phung and a friend of same class(forgot his name). chat while hp was fooling around with his laptop. then he started talking about DOTA and stuff. i figured i can lower his ping more. i already lowered his ping by ~100ms and i think i can do more. disabled Nagle's algorithm and successfully cut down even more. hp got too excited and began playing, me too too excited by my success just sat there watching him play. no worries, class starts at 12 noon today.

in the mid of it. i went to INSO(the campus's IT support dept) and hv them fix my account. after it was done, i was thinking of streaming stuff from my pc back at home through Team Viewer. as always, intel inside idiot outside. i deleted the ID of my pc back at home, shit.

electronics class. bad. i am so frustratingly slow at learning and recalling things i would call a no-brainer back in the days. a simple ohm's law question got me stuck for hell of a long time. yet the lecturer said coolly that these questions are too simple, wont come out in exams. shit. after the class ends, i feel like my head is going to burst from overheating. was gonna ask the lecturer bout the questions from the electronics text but found out i screwed up ALL the calculations. felt so dumb and useless.

returned the book, since due date is only 2 days away. got something lighter on the nerves.

next class, 4pm. visual basic class. came into class with alot of my classmates staring at me and whispered something to each other. didnt care, since i was having a really bad day anyway. later on one of them asked me why i didnt joined them for lunch, they went outside the campus. i said i didnt know and from the facial expressions of them, they're thinking that im arrogant. k, fine with that.

vb was supposed to be darn simple. but since today sucks. things have to be hard on me. the vb on my pc(well, not actually mine. the pc im using in the lab) is screwed. keeps giving bullshit errors and it writes bullshit codes. Index As Integers!? wtf did that come from? it kept popping out. making the walk-in-the-park 8 questions into crawling-on-glass-shards nightmare. at the end of the class, i dont care if the codes work anymore. i just write away. i knew my codes are correct bsc i have them simulated in others pc. very pissed off.

the class ends at 6pm. cool enough, its peak hour. traffic jams. i was stuck INSIDE the campus for 20 minutes. then there was a massive traffic jam from island end of the bridge all the way to chai leng park. i was practically just pressing and releasing the brakes the whole way. took me an hour or more to get home.

home. i formatted my pc yesterday so i kinda need to start building everything back. suddenly mom called. went over to find my bro(the idiot tall one) with a dicipline letter. asking my mom to go to school to meet the head of dicipline on thursday. mom was furious. and i have to agree with mom's every word that my bro is guilty in every single way. k, my bro is a fkin idiot who doent think of the consequences of an action. if he is yong khoon or any of my juniors, i would have whacked him or have him run 10 rounds around the school carrying the woofer. him? i am just speechless. i simply ran out of words to describe his idiotness.

and yet im somehow guilty too. i've been scolded for playing games all day long and not concentrating on studies. WTF!? it has been 1 week since i last played and ever since i got into INTI, i've let go of my usual lazyness and chatyness(watever u call that) and got straight into studying. even my sis once asked me y i changed so much. WTF!?

APCN2 CABLE FAULT AFFECTS INTERNET SERVICES & GLOBAL VOICE CALLS


Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to inform our customers that TM and its consortium members have identified that the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) is currently experiencing a fault on the segment linking Kuantan, Malaysia to Lantau, Hong Kong.

Customers using Internet services nationwide may experience some degree of service degradation such as slow browsing and high latency while accessing international websites hosted in the North Asia, US & Europe. Customers using Virtual Private Network (VPN) and other critical business applications linked to North Asia, US & Europe may also experience some level of service degradation.

The failure may also affect TM global voice circuits to Japan, US, Korea, China, Vietnam and Hong Kong. TM international direct dialling (IDD), ISDN, and international toll free services may experience some level of service degradation until the affected cable segments are repaired.

In mitigation, TM had carried out necessary traffic management to minimize the impact of the incident and ease the situation to these services.

We will make further announcements on the progress of the restoration works and TM apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the disruption. We would like to assure our customers that all necessary measures are being taken to restore the services as soon as possible.

this is really getting on my nerves... im getting fkin 30kbps max speed out of my download speeds and 460++ ms ping in AVA. this is VERY screwed up. fkin streamyx. wish they dont monopolize the ISP service in my area. in the penang island, things are better cause there are 12 ISP there hence there's a competition between them to maintain their quality of service. INTI uses Extreme Broadband for good reason, they provide 5Mbps speed at CONSTANT rate and no DC at all! and there's also alot of good ISP over there such as PenangFON which provides very "WTF!!! so fast!!!!" making fibre optics connection. what is wrong with this side of penang!?

April Fool post

bored. the most boring April Fool of all time. seriously, nobody's doing anything. n i thought form 5's April Fool is boring, this is worse than that. the surrounding is totally devoid of any pranks. its not just those i knew, its the whole campus. the whole campus is dull, black n white.

class started on monday. nothing much. just alot of nothingness. lecturers wont start teaching. instead we just chit chat and do some ice breaking stuff. n no, i havent remember all their names yet. i only remember a few key ppl. will put some effort on the others.

wednesday was the orientation day for us DEEI(E&E students) students. didnt attend that, instead i went to KL to sit for a 2 hr exam bout insurance. which i walked out in 45 minutes and passed. oh, and i bought a new mouse to replace the 5 year old Microsoft IntelliMouse. the solder of the cable are broken which causes random DC. those are annoying especially when u're in the mid of spraying some1 down then suddenly ur mouse is stuck n u got killed... bought a Blaze mouse. is wasnt a true gaming mouse but it'll pass for my low budget. oh, gonna warranty it tmr bsc the DPI button is screwed. DPI is very important ya know?

on thursday we learned some basics of visual basics. its in VB6 version. the OLD version. as in VERY OLD version. we now use VB.net already. grow up for buddha's sake. sheesh...

since the 8800GTS was screwed, i've switched back to my old ATI card. performance was once again low but manageable through some overclocking. it was so frustratingly slow that i cut the resolution of AVA down to 800x600 just to get the same FPS of what i would get from the 8800. the 8800 can run at 190fps even with all the graphics setting on high. whereas the ATI struggled to get above 80fps even with low settings. hence i now dropped the resolution from 1400x900 to 800x600 just to get that 190fps. yeah... im TAT desperate. cant aim with low fps.

oh, since i passed that  insurance exam. im now officially an insurance agent. anyone worried about the safety of their butts can call me, i can provide you with insurance lol. the only one i knew who has insurance for their butts is Jennifer Lopez.

anyway... happy April Fool to everyone. hope you guys had more fun than i do. wait a sec, everyone else is CONFIRMED to have better fun than i do...
