tech time

ok, i got myself a Cooler Master 550W Extreme Power Plus today. to get rid of those question marks on ur heads, its a power supply unit, a.k.a. PSU. ok, so as the name says, this psu pumps out 550 watts of power. if u're thinking:" y the hassle n money wasting to buy such a thing?", this is the answer most ppl dont wanna hear. a cheap, no-brand psu will NEVER give the amount of power tat is stated. if it says 500 watts, u can bet it gives 400 watts top. also, the efficiency is terribly lower, making those grey box of junk ridiculously hot and ends up damaging itself. n also bsc of tat, they giv u a max warranty of 3 months.

so here it is. the Cooler Master 550W Extreme Power Plus boast 550 watts true power, 2 6-pin PCI-E power connectors, 6 SATA power connectors, 2 4-pin cpu power connector, support for both 20-pin and 24-pin ATX mainboard power connectors, supports ATX 12V ver 2.3 and a very cool black colour. too bad they didnt put a blue LED in there...

 

 n believe me, that thing is HEAVY

the 6-pin PCI-E power connector. the 2-pin thing there is for use with the 6-pin in case the graphics card needs a 8-pin power connector(ASUS Mars)

the ATX mainboard power connector. the 4-pin thing is for use with the big 20-pin connector in mainboards tat use 24-pin power connector.

 the SATA power connectors(black) and the white molex PATA power connectors

the dual processor power connectors. feeds 12v to the processor... huge power there

ok, so i had to take out the old one n replace it with the new cooler master. so i tot i might wanna make a post outta this so tat everyone can benefit from this. ok, it started with tearing everything out of my cramped tower(a.k.a. casing). took out my P5Q SE PLUS, disconnected all the wires, took out the fans and  the old psu. i left the drives there since i dont have to do anything to them.

my graphics card. ASUS EAH4350 Silent. clock speed 600MHz(overclocked it to 760MHz), memory speed 400MHz(oc to 535MHz)

see the 2 chips down there? those are the RAMs... there's another pair below the card. this card has 512MB

the bottom part

my P5Q SE PLUS. onboard in a Cooler Master Hyper 212 cpu heatsink fan(tat big big metal thing), and a pair of Kingston DDR2 800 2GB RAMs. the orange thing with the ASUS logo is the northbridge heatsink, the gleaming orange thing is the southbridge heatsink. the northbridge heatsink is always bigger than the southbridge's bsc it handles more important stuff.

 i like the way asus writes things. n tat blue thing is the PCI-E 16x 2.0, the whites ones r 8x, the shortest is 4x

ok, done with the intros. ok, then i juz cleaned everything. u cant imagine how much dust accumulates in the thing... then in goes the psu.

 

it's in. no scratches. though the color didnt fit...

ok, everything in... n then i realised how cramped it became... the new psu got more cables than the old one, making it very messy and crowded with wires

ok, then plugged it in, powered it up, n wait for it to explode... which is wat im doing while typing this.

 

did i mention tat it glows really nice when the lights r off?

suddenly busy

not serious kinda busy. my mom, as u already know works in a insurance company. so they have a deadline to deliver a targeted amount of income or watever u wan to call it. actually, i forgot the term. ok, so the deadline is over on 15th dec, target met and surpassed. which means tat my mom n her colleges r ridiculously free for the rest of the year. n my mom being a show-off-my-family kinda mom brought the whole family out for EVERY single celebration events.

16th Dec 2009:
gone to "khun thai" in i dunno where cuz im sleeping the whole journey there. chinese orchestra anniversary knocked me out. ate till 9pm. right after tat, went to sunway carnival's city box for karaoke. i had to admit, it was fun. reached home at 1.30am. wasnt late by my standard, but too tiring.

17th Dec 2009:
lini's birthday. woke up at 12... mom brought us to queensbay's padini. she got 30% off discount card. shopped for a while, continued at gurney plaza's padini. sure, bought tons of clothes n shoes. n then ate at gurney drive. got back at 9 something. n then we started to do a little fashion show lalala... took 2gb worth of pictures...

18th Dec 2009:
went to alma for breakfast. then carefour for chrismas shopping. bought a chrismas tree and enough decoratives to open a shop. came home at 5, set up the chrismas tree and prepared for bbq. after dinner, my mom came out of my room with bunch of dvds... n asked where did i get those. im getting a feeling tat im gonna get screwed

believe me, insurance is a good job. lots of pay, flexible working time. and the bonus is good. my mom once got a all-expense-paid trip to korea. but it also means tat public relations must b top notch. probably includes some "wipe shoes" too.

more activities tmr... all of them she told us at the last minute and expects us to b ready and obey. sigh, better than none eh?

lately

didnt really get anything to do. went to school today for the supposed simulation and club meeting. screw hell with tat, the teacher juz asked "ready adi ornot?" then left. some simulation huh? the meeting? hammered out a few stuff, at least hung phung looks more like a president now. i'll take tat back, barel

finished a book in 2 days, tats gonna b my record. gives a an impression of how bored i am. cant power up my rig bsc i havent got my PSU yet. u know wat? sometimes u've gotta b grateful if ur mom doesnt complicate things. n yea, u shouldnt tell ur mom everything, especially my mom.

tat day in pacific. i went to shop 4 it, didnt find wat i wanted so i went ton popular. she called n asked if we can leave, i said yes. n i told her i wasnt to try my luck at pcdepot. she said wait 4 her bsc she wanted to shop 4 clothes. it was 1.43, i checked. before tat my mom told me to remind her tat she want to make an appointment with a customer at 2.30. guess wat? i called her at 2.40, telling her bout the appointment, n i went to find her. there she is, still in the clothes shop. n then when we finally left tat shop, she said:" wait 4 me, i want to go see another shop". it was already 3.02. AFTER buying another dress, we finally left pacific. when i told her tat i wanna try my luck at pcdepot, she said:"too tired, wan go home". n i reminded her bout the appointment again, she said:"nvm liao la".

tats juz one of the numerous times she did something like tat. when my dad was still here, he would yell at her. n then he would say sry later. cant blame him, she's juz... TAT. n did i mention she was nvr punctual? if i told her i need to b at school at 6, she would ask me when does it start. n we would end up arriving 10 seconds before the activity starts. n then whenever she heads out in the morning, if the meeting is at 9.30, she would wake up at 9 and rush everything, finally screaming at me if any of her stuff wasnt packed even if she didnt told me to. says im not "aware of the situation".

im not complaining. n im not gonna tell her bout it, cuz im juz gonna get myself yelled at.

watever, no point yammering anyway. she'll b like tat 4 even if some wise guy tell her to change. off for maintainence.

really, havent updated since the start of.... time?

so suen rong went to singapore 2day. pity her nobody else went to the airport. u wont believe wat excuse some of the elecs AJKs use. n her hair is just W.O.W. nevertheless, she's still the cheerful girl who kicks butt. hope she does well there. wonders when would she b back?

n then there's my horrible horrible PC problem. keeps blacking out n rebooting. always interrupts my game(my score/death is now a friggin 1.300). asus forum says its caused by a PSU tat provides too low power. mine currently is a no-brand 500w model, which in reality pumps out bout 380w only. have to swap it for a REAL 500w PSU. its gonna b costly...

n then there's the usual boredom. cant really do anything bout it. i dont have the focus to do something for an extended period of time anyway, so fresh things get old pretty quickly. need books...

my faithful soldering iron died yesterday. Ultimax 30w blue colored soldering iron had served well for more than 1 year has now left me. its heating elements r damaged somehow n is irreplaceable. a new Ultimax 30w/130w switchable soldering iron now replace its downed comrade. RIP Ultimax 30w blue colored soldering iron!!!

was pulling up weeds at my old house. hands blistering, sun baking my sweat dry... n it rained. it was kinda like my 1st time to b thankful tat it rained... glad it did.

watever, have to continue on those stubborn weeds tomorrow... n polish my mom's car's seats... they looks ridiculously old

n my bro is the worst mmorpg player ever...

these few days

granparents left for shanghai, coming back tonight. mom left for macao yesterday midnight. back on 3rd Dec.

bored to hell. read magazine most of the time. plus a bit of AVA(now sergeant first class).
